Sprint King Usain Bolt is currently under police investigation after crashing his BMW in Half Way Tree, Kingston yesterday morning.According to reports, Bolt was traveling home from a party with friends including Asafa Powell when he ran off the road and smash into a guard rail in the vicinity of the transport center.Senior superintendent in charge of the Police Traffic Division, Radcliffe Lewis, said a breathalyzer test conducted on the Olympic champion yesterday revealed that he was not driving under the influence.“A statement was collected from Bolt, but the information is sketchy and a phone number is there but we are trying to get in touch with him without success,” Lewis told the Gleaner. “We need to have more dialogue with him about how the accident happened.”The police department has come under pressure from the public since the incident to give the sprinter a break because of his celebrity status. However, Lewis said if he is found to be at fault he will be charged in according to the Road Traffic Act.“Not because he is a world celebrity we are going to compromise our position, but we have discretion and if it is to be applied it will be, so we need for him to come so that we can have dialogue,” Lewis laments.Deputy Commissioner of Police Glenmore Hinds also backed Lewis’ statement that the three-time Olympic champion will be criminally charged if investigations suggest that he is at fault.“No one is above the law and justice will be served with equity and thorough investigations will be undertaken just the same,” Hinds said.Usain Bolt was not injured in the accident.
