Six luxury cars, including two jeeps and a saloon car, were badly damaged early this morning when an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by a tree in the Wuse District of Abuja went off, sending residents and revelers at a nearby night club scampering for safety.Witnesses and officials of the National Emergency Management Agency however said there were no casualties in the explosion, which went off right in front of Hanan Plaza, beside the Etisalat office in the Wuse 2 district of the capital. There were however talks of a white male surviving the blast. But the incidence did not happen at a night club as earlier reported by some media outfits. An Abuja-based lawyer, Abdul Mahmud, whose residence is 50 yards to the scene, said the impact of the explosion caused his windows to shake out of their hinges.“No question. It was a bomb,” Mr. Mahmud said, in updates he provided via his twitter handle. “You need to be in the vicinity. We were lucky tonight it didn’t happen inside the club (Kryxstal Lounge).”

Police officers, soldiers and NEMA officials later arrived the scene, and were seen inspecting the IED they suspected triggered the explosion after locking down the Aminu Kano Crescent from across Access Bank end to the Parakou Crescent end.Operatives later took some cars near the scene of the blast away.Mr. Mahmud quoted a Mr. Annan of NEMA as confirming that the explosion was not a car bomb but an IED, and that there were no casualties. The police could not be reached for comments. But spokesperson for NEMA, Yushau Shuaibu, confirmed the incident. He said there was no human casualty but that six luxury vehicles were damaged.Mr. Shuaibu added that window  glasses of buildings  around the vicinity were shattered by the blast.
