D’Banj Wins The Best African Act Award At The 2012 MOBOs

Nigerian musical star, DBanj, has added the 2012 Music Of Black Origin( MOBO) Award for Best African Act to his list of achievements. The ceremony held at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, England, over the weekend.
The award which is DBanj’s first MOBO, sees him join past Nigerian winners 2face Idibia(2007), 9ice(2008) and Nneka(2009). The 31 year old singer was nominated alongside some of Africa’s finest artistes such as Amadou & Mariam , Cabo Snoop ,Camp Mulla, Sarkodie, Fally Ipupa, Fatoumata Diawara, P-Square , Spoek Mathambo and The Very Best.

Emeli Sande

Fast rising British singer, Emeli Sande, also carted away three separate awards for Best Female; Best Album, for her number one-selling Our Version of Events; and Best R&B/Soul at the ceremony.
The veteran American singer, Dionne Warwick, was also presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award in celebration of half a century in the music business.
London hip-hop artist, Plan B, snapped up Best Male Act and Best Hip Hop/Grime, which was presented by rising international star, Rita Ora.

Labrinth

TLC’s Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins and Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas also received this year’s Mobo Award for Outstanding Contribution to Music. Members of the Lisa ‘Left Eye’ Lopes’s family were also in attendance to celebrate the honour on her behalf. The singer died in a car accident 10 years ago.
