Heavy traffic took over most parts of the Central Business District of Abuja Tuesday following a clash between officials of three accredited operators of park and pay services.
The scuffle was between officials of the Integrated Parking Services (IPS) and Platinum Parking Management Services (PPMS) on one hand and that of the newly registered firm, Automaten Technik Baumann (ATB).
The fight caused traffic gridlock along some major roads linking Radio House, Garki and the International Conference Centre.
The parking agents whose responsibilities are to control traffic and collect levy abandoned their posts and engaged in fracas following alleged harassment of IPS and PPMS agents by ATB agents.
Daily Trust correspondent witnessed the clash at Bannex Plaza, Tigris Crescent and the Central Business District.
When contacted, ATB officials declined comment but IPS and PPMS through a joint interaction with journalists, blamed the FCTA for registering a new outfit which they said contravened the terms of agreement with the FCTA.
Otunba Olusegun Olarewaju and Iliyasu Abdu both chief executive officers of PPMS and IPS threatened to seek legal action and seek redress from FCTA in line with their earlier agreement.
However, spokesperson of the FCT Transport Secretariat, Mrs Stella Ojeme, said FCTA intended to sign an MOU with two new companies to strengthen the traffic control.
