US governor mixes up phone sex number with meningitis hotline

A US governor was left red-faced after directing members of the public looking for information about a meningitis outbreak to a phone sex hotline.
Embarrassed Florida official Rick Scott directed scores of people to the adult hotline after accidentally reading out the wrong number.
Shocked callers were greeted with a recording from a woman saying: 'Hello boys, thank you for calling me on my anniversary.'
Just moments before Mr Scott had told a cabinet meeting: 'You can call the Department of Health’s toll-free, 24-hour hotline set up in response to this.'
Tampa radio station WUSF, who was reporting on the meeting, later posted the number on its website.
However the station said it was 'quickly notified by a reader that the number instead connected to an adult telephone line'.
A spokeswoman for the governor said he had simply misread the number and, after being informed of his mistake, he was able to correct himself in the same meeting .
The gaff was a brief moment of relief in a national crisis which has taken the lives of 12 people across America.
