Jay-Z has announced his first live record in more than a decade, documenting the final show of an eight-night run at the Barclays Centre in Brooklyn, New York. The Live in Brooklyn EP will go on sale on Tuesday, less than 60 hours after the rapper played the sold-out concert.
For now, the EP is digital-only. But it's described as an "optic" album, featuring both audio from the show and eight separate videos. Although Jay-Z's Barclays gigs were notable for their lack of guest performers, his wife – who just happens to be BeyoncĆ© – joined him on Saturday night for performances of Diva, Young Forever and their biggest hit together, Crazy in Love.
All eight of Jay-Z's hometown shows sold out within hours, and about 18,000 people watched each one – with even more tuning in for the final concert, which was streamed on the internet. These were the first public events to be held at the Barclays Centre, which was built as a new home for the Brooklyn Nets basketball team. In addition to helping design the Nets' new logo, Jay-Z is a minority owner of the team.
Jay-Z's last and only live record was the all-acoustic Jay-Z: Unplugged, issued in 2001. He has released five studio albums since then, and appeared on 14 top-10 US singles. He is thought to be working on a new LP, his 12th.
