British rag The Sun reports that Blake Fielder-Civil, who was married to the late singer from 2007-2009, was found choking on his own vomit and with a swallowed tongue last Friday by girlfriend Sarah Aspin, allegedly after going on an alcohol and drug-fueled bender. He was then rushed to the hospital in West Yorkshire, England, after suffering from multiple organ failure, and placed in an induced coma to ward off infection. He remains in critical condition.
"I'm praying he'll survive, but I'm having to prepare myself that he may never wake up," Aspin told the publication. Fielder-Civil, 30, and Aspin, 34, met in rehab three years ago and have a 15-month-old son, Jack, together.
She continued: “He’s never really been a drinker, but when he got home with this friend, he was slurring his words and staggering — I thought he was on something. I was very angry because he’d been doing so well.”
Winehouse's father Mitch Winehouse confirmed the news via Twitter, writing: "Terrible news about Blake this morning. Remember Amy loved him. Let's pray for his recovery." He also mentioned that Fielder-Civil appeared to be recovering, tweeting: "It looks like Blake is going to get through this. That's good news."
Winehouse, who had waged a public battle with addiction for years, died just over a year ago from accidental alcohol poisoning; she was 27.
