Meanwhile, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has praised the national chairman, Bamanga Tukur’s leadership style on the occasion of his first 100 days in office.
Party sources said in Abuja the 12- member NWC has proposed a monthly salary of N2 million for Tukur, N1.5m for the national secretary, Olagunsoye Oyinlola while the other 10 members would receive one million each monthly.
The previous NWC members were not on salaries but were paid only sitting allowances. According to the proposed pay package, the NWC members would also receive N5,000 weekly allowance.
The NWC members will equally be entitled to housing, vehicle and furniture allowances.
The rationale for the new development, according to sources, is to discourage NWC from going to PDP governors cap in hand.
The national publicity secretary of the party, Olisa Metuh, could not be reached on phone, as he is away to South Africa. In a statement by his media office in Abuja, the former Vice President noted that Tukur had cut the image of a unifier, peacemaker and bridge-builder at a critical point the party requires his strong leadership.
According to Atiku, the PDP chairman has kept faith with the reconciliation policy, aimed at rebuilding the party, which was once torn apart by division and acrimony.
