Bomb scare in Kaduna, IGP pledges security

The Acting Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Alhaji Mohammed Dikko Abubakar, has pledged that enough security  will  be made available by the Force Headquarters to Kaduna in order to avert further crisis in the state.
But there was pandemonium in the metropolis yesterday, which forced thousands of residents to abandon their businesses and duty-posts and stay at home.
Amid the pandemonium in the state, Abubakar arrived at about 11.30 a.m., accompanied by top-ranking police officers who paid a courtesy visit to the governor, Mr. Patrick Yakowa, at the Government House.
According to Abubakar, the police were ready to assist the state government to combat violence and crime, pledging to look into the plea by Governor Yakowa for more police deployment in the state.
The panic, which occurred among the residents of Kaduna city, began on Wednesday evening due to a rumour of a bomb blast in Rigachukun, along Kaduna-Zaria highway. Yesterday morning, there was a rumour of another crisis in the city, forcing several residents to return to their various homes for safety.
Many cars and commercial vehicles carrying fresh leaves were seen with their head-lamps switched on, making diversion at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium (ABS) roundabout and heading toward Kaduna south. There were several commercial vehicles also making U-turn at the Leventis roundabout back to Kawo and Mando axis of the town. Several people were also seen on major roads trekking back from their places of work.
The situation forced the government and police command in the state to make special appeals to the citizens in the state on the state radio, Kaduna State Media Corporation (KSMC), to dispel the rumour of fresh violence in the state.
