Peril is once more facing the universe, introducing the malevolent dark elf leader Malekith The Accursed into proceedings, played by Brit actor Christopher Eccleston, and Lost's Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as his evil cohort Algrim The Strong.
Tom Hiddleston's sinister Loki, Thor's adopted brother, is back, imprisoned and treading a line between darkness and redemption, while Idris Elba's Heimdall also returns.
After Kenneth Branagh relinquished the director's chair from the first film, it's been taken over by Alan Taylor, the eminent TV director known for directing the likes of 'Game of Thrones', 'The Sopranos' and 'Deadwood'.
Also starring are Stellan Skarsgard, reprising his role as Foster's mentor Dr Erik Selvig, Ray Stevenson, Zachary Levi, Jaimie Alexander, Rene Russo, Chris O'Dowd and Anthony Hopkins, once more playing Odin.
It's due out on October 30.
