It was gathered that the incident started soon after the state deputy governor, Bala Ngillari and other dignitaries left the place after the donation.
The thugs numbering about twenty in a commando style and armed with broken bottles, sticks and machetes stormed the place, burgled the state central store and went away with relief materials.
A volunteer said “we saw hell as these thugs attacked us with dangerous weapons threatening to kill us. They carted away all the items, this is embarrassing”.
Confirming the attack, the state chairman of the Red Cross who is also the permanent secretary in the state ministry of environment, Alhaji Mahmood Abubakar, said the items carted away by the hoodlums included kitchen sets, shelter kits, detergents, blankets and mosquito nets donated by the society’s head office for five flood affected communities in the state.
He said it was callous for anybody to rip-off internally displaced persons in their predicament and warned that government would deal decisively with any person involved in such embarrassing act.
