IG Of Police Orders Arrest Of Police Officer Over N500,000 Bribe

The Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, has ordered the arrest of the Officer in Charge of the Legal Department of Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Yaba, C. Chukwu.
Chukwu allegedly collected N100,000 marked notes from the office of Mohammed as part of a N500,000 bribe he demanded in a case being handled by his office.
DailyPost had gathered that Chukwu, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, had been given an initial N400,000 bribe after threatening to ensure that those involved in a land case were sent to jail.
He, however, insisted on collecting another N100,000 to make the money up to N500,000.
But when the issue was mentioned to a friend of Mohammed, he intimated the IGP about the development.
Mohammed was said to had arranged for the marked N100,000 bills in conjunction with a Deputy Inspector General of Police.
Chukwu was given the money by those involved in the case in the presence of detectives from the Force Headquarters, Abuja and he was promptly arrested.
As at press time, neither the Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, nor the spokesperson of the Lagos State Police Command, Ngozi Braide, could confirm the report.
Chukwu has since been moved to the Force Headquarters for further interrogation, based on the directives of IGP.
