Jerry Buss, Longtime Los Angeles Lakers Owner, Dead At 79 After Battle With Cancer

Longtime Lakers owner Jerry Buss died Monday morning, according to the Los Angeles Times.
He was 79.
Buss had been in the hospital receiving treatment for an undisclosed form of cancer. A self-made millionaire, Buss purchased the Lakers in 1979. Ten of the Lakers’ 17 NBA championships came under his stewardship.
After word came out that Buss was in the hospital, current and former Lakers players were vocal in their support of their boss.
"Dr. Jerry Buss, thinking about u & wish I could be there, get well soon. I can't wait 2 see u on 4/2/13 #LoveYou #Lakers" Shaquille O'Neal tweeted on Friday. O'Neil is having his Lakers jersey retired on April 2.
"He means everything to me," Kobe Bryant said to USA Today in a story published Friday. "He took a chance on a 17-year-old kid coming out of Philadelphia when nobody really saw that potential. He believed in me the entire way."
