Wayne Rooney will captain England in Friday's World Cup qualifier against San Marino.
The Manchester United forward, 26, takes the role due to Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard's absence through suspension and injury.
Rooney, who has 76 caps for his country, is due to appear alongside coach Roy Hodgson at a news conference from 13:30 BST.
Friday's match at Wembley is a 90,000 sell out.
Rooney previously captained England in a 1-0 defeat to Brazil in November 2009 in place of the injured John Terry.
